TradingKey - President Trump stated that the government is negotiating with four top teams regarding the acquisition of TikTok, and a deal is expected to be reached soon.
March 9, Trump mentioned, "We are in discussions with four very capable teams about TikTok, and a deal for this social video app could happen quickly." Trump did not disclose the identities of the buyers, only indicating that they are highly competent.
In 2020, Microsoft, Oracle, and Walmart had all attempted to acquire TikTok, but negotiations ultimately fell through, making them likely candidates to whom Trump is referring to.
Whoever acquires TikTok might end up giving 50% of the equity to the U.S. Trump remarked, "What I'd like to say to someone is, buy it, and then give half of it to America."
Previously, Trump indicated that an agreement might be reached by April, and if no deal is in place by April 5, he may extend the deadline for the sale of TikTok's U.S. operations if necessary.
