TradingKey - OpenAI has announced it will accept e-commerce ads. This move aims to compete with Google.
On Monday, OpenAI announced updates to ChatGPT Search, introducing online shopping options for users.
When users search for a product, ChatGPT will suggest related items, providing links, images, and reviews. All this information comes from third parties, and checkout takes place directly on the retailer's website. ChatGPT is not involved in the transaction.
An OpenAI spokesperson stated that the company will not charge users for shopping through ChatGPT. This strategy is primarily aimed at competing with Google(GOOG).
Previously, CEO Sam Altman opposed the idea of ads in ChatGPT. However, he is now open to e-commerce opportunities and has even said he would accept "tasteful" ads and earn commissions on recommended products.
