NEW YORK, April 14 (Reuters) - The Dallas Wings selected UConn star Paige Bueckers with the first pick in the WNBA Draft on Monday, capping a dream end to her collegiate career.
There was no doubt Bueckers would go first overall after a brilliant collegiate career and fans at The Shed in Manhattan reached a fever pitch as she stepped onto the stage and into the professional ranks.
Bueckers and her UConn Huskies dismantled South Carolina 82-59 in the championship earlier this month, giving her the fairytale sendoff she craved after overcoming multiple injuries in her college career.
Dallas fans will hope that Bueckers, a famously efficient scorer with terrific defensive intuition, will give the Wings a lift as they seek to recover from a dismal 9-31 season.
