TradingKey - The Senate has approved Paul Atkins' nomination as SEC chair. The House is preparing for a final vote, which could happen as early as tonight.
On Wednesday, the U.S. senator voted 51-45 to confirm Paul Atkins, who was nominated by President Trump. The House is now set for its final vote, expected later tonight.
Paul Atkins holds a law degree and brings extensive experience as both a Wall Street advisor and a financial regulator. He previously served as an SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008 and co-chaired the Token Alliance in 2017 along side former CFTC chair James Newsome.
In contrast to former SEC chair Gary Gensler, Atkins is viewed as crypto-friendly. He has authored reports on the issuance and trading of digital assets and reportedly holds up to $6 million in crypto-related investments.
Given his stance, the market anticipates that Atkins may push for lighter regulatory oversight. His leadership could signal a more favorable environment for digital assets and cryptocurrencies. Notably, approval of spot ETFs for altcoins may be on the horizon this year.
