CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Soy basis barge bids steady, corn bids tick lower

CHICAGO, April 14 (Reuters) - Basis bids for soybeans delivered by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals were steady, while bids for corn ticked lower on Monday as river shipping woes create issues with movement of supplies to the export hub, traders said.

* Forecasts for more rainfall in parts of the central U.S. may add additional transportation issues with river levels in the upper Mississippi Valley and along parts of the lower Mississippi River, barge sources said.

* Flooding on the lower Ohio River following severe storms last week has resulted in some grain elevators unable to load barges or move out those that have already been loaded.

* Heavy water flows from the Ohio River have also been impacting barge operations on the lower Mississippi River, where barge lines are restricting vessel movement and limiting tow sizes in several areas, shipping sources said.

* The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed private sales of 120,000 metric tons of U.S. corn for shipment to Japan in the 2024/25 marketing year.

* Traders said that European buyers are still in the market for U.S. soybean deals, after Chinese demand has stopped because of high tariffs.

* CIF Gulf soybean barges loaded in May traded at 82 cents over Chicago Board of Trade May SK25 futures.

* CIF Gulf soybean barges loaded in April were bid steady at 84 cents over CBOT May futures.

* Export premiums for soybeans loaded in April were steady at about 95 cents over May futures, while May shipments were offered 2 cents higher at 87 cents over futures.

* CIF Gulf corn barges loaded in April were bid 1 cent lower at 75 cents over CBOT May CK25 futures.

* FOB export premiums for corn shipped in April were offered 1 cent higher at 87 cents over futures.
