CBOT wheat ends lower on improving US weather forecasts

- Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures fell on Monday, pressured by forecasts for improving weather in dry areas of the U.S. Plains production belt and spillover weakness as European wheat futures hit one-year lows, brokers said.

  • CBOT May soft red winter wheat WK25 settled down 8-1/4 cents at $5.47-1/2 per bushel.

  • K.C. May hard red winter wheat KWK25 ended down 12-3/4 cents at $5.55-1/4 a bushel and Minneapolis May spring wheat MWEK25 fell 10-1/4 cents to end at $6.04-3/4 a bushel.

  • European wheat futures in Paris tumbled as export-punishing euro strength depressed sentiment.

  • The USDA reported export inspections of U.S. wheat in the latest week at 604,461 metric tons, above a range of trade expectations for 200,000 to 525,000 tons. USDA/I

  • After the CBOT close, the USDA rated 47% of the U.S. winter wheat crop in good to excellent condition, down from 48% a week earlier and in line with trade expectations.

  • The USDA said the U.S. spring wheat crop was 7% planted, also matching trade expectations.
