NORDIC POWER-Forward prices gain on strong fuel prices, German power rates

ReutersApr 14, 2025 12:03 PM

- Nordic forward power prices rose on Monday, driven by higher gas and German power rates and a slightly drier weather forecast.

The Nordic front-quarter baseload power contract ENOFBLQc1 rose 0.17 euros or 0.9% to 18.32 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) as of 1131 GMT.

The Nordic front-year contract ENOFBLYc1 gained 0.5 euros or 1.5% to 33.9 euros per MWh.

"Mainly fuel and German market is driving the Nordic market a bit up," said Ole Tom Djupskaas, power analyst at LSEG, adding that a dry forecast could also be helping the prices.

Nordic water reserves available 15 days ahead PCAEC00 were seen at 11.36 terawatt hours (TWh) above normal, compared with 12.56 TWh on Friday.

"Occasional rain will bring often above-normal amounts to the entire area (Scandinavia). Extreme amounts are not likely and temperatures will be quite high and largely above normal," LSEG meteorologist Georg Muller said.

Dutch and British gas prices rose in line with equities markets after some tariff exemptions for Chinese goods supplying tech companies, while milder, windier weather should allow for more gas storage refilling. NG/EU

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration on Sunday exempted smartphones and computers from "reciprocal" tariffs, leading to a rebound in equity markets across China, the world's largest electronics exporter.

German year-ahead power TRDEBYc1 added 0.65 euros or 0.8% to 81.4 per MWh.

In the European carbon market, the benchmark contract CFI2Zc1 rose 1.81 euros or 2.79% to 66.63 euros a ton.

The Nordic power price for next-day physical delivery FXSYSAL=NPX, or system price, fell 2.64 euros or 17.02% to 12.87 euros per MWh.
