BEIJING, April 14 (Reuters) - China's foreign ministry on Monday urged the United Kingdom to treat Chinese companies investing and operating in the country fairly, in response to Britain's move to take control of British Steel from its Chinese owner.
The two sides should solve the issue through consultation, Lin Jian, a ministry spokesperson, said in a regular press briefing, urging the British government not to affect Chinese companies' confidence in investing and operating in the U.K.
Britain moved to take control of British Steel on Saturday, after the company, owned by China's Jingye Group, failed to reach a deal with the government.
