USTR will seek Congress approval on tariff deals if law requires, Greer says

- The Trump administration will seek congressional approval for any comprehensive free trade agreements, but anticipates that any deals struck with countries to ease President Donald Trump's latest tariffs may be more limited in nature, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said on Wednesday.

"We will do what the law requires," when asked whether USTR would seek approval from Congress on any tariff deals, Greer told a House Ways and Means Committee hearing.

Past sectoral trade deals struck with Japan and South Korea during Trump's first term were done without the same congressional approval process that the 2020 revamp of the North American Free Trade Agreement used.
