ANKARA, March 21 (Reuters) - Hungary has received an extension from the United States to a sanctions waiver allowing it to make gas payments to Russia, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Friday.
Washington last year imposed new sanctions on Russia's Gazprombank, one of the country's largest banks which receives payments for natural gas from Gazprom's customers in Europe, over the Ukraine conflict.
Speaking in Ankara via a translator, Szijjarto also said Hungary is in talks with Turkey's state-owned pipeline operator BOTAS to purchase natural gas directly from Turkey in 2025
