Jan 17 (Reuters) - Physical U.S. crude grades broadly rose on Friday, dealers said, after the domestic rig count fell to a three-year low, with West Texas Sour bucking the wider upward trend.
U.S. energy firms this week cut the number of oil and natural gas rigs operating for a second week in a row to the lowest since December 2021, energy services firm Baker Hughes BKR.O said in its closely followed report on Friday.
The oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output, fell by four to 580 in the week to Jan. 17.
U.S. oil refiners are expected to have about 1.1 million barrels per day (bpd) of capacity offline in the week ending Jan. 17, decreasing available refining capacity by 485,000 bpd, research company IIR Energy said on Friday.
Offline capacity is expected to rise to 1.39 million bpd in the week ending Jan. 24, and then fall to 1.28 million bpd in the subsequent week, IIR added.
