Jan 6 (Reuters) - Average daily volume (ADV) in U.S. natural gas futures and options on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose to record highs in 2024, data from its owner CME Group CME.O showed.
In 2024, futures ADV was 516,553, up 26.5% from a year earlier. That topped the prior futures ADV annual record high of 477,468 contracts in 2020.
In December, futures ADV was 591,590 contracts, up 19.5% from a year ago. Futures ADV hit a monthly record of 677,112 contracts in November 2018.
In 2024, financially settled European-style options ADV rose to 213,945, up 56.3% from the prior year. That exceeded the prior options ADV annual record high of 136,873 contracts in 2023.
Financially settled European-style options ADV was 247,687 in December, up 58.1% from a year earlier. Options ADV hit a monthly record of 273,679 in February 2024.
