Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.89%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.13%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 3.66% or 0.83 points to trade at 23.35 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 2.37% or 12.12 points to end at 523.59 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 1.95% or 5.27 points to 275.46 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 2.30% or 3.57 points to trade at 151.50 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 0.78% or 1.20 points to end at 152.77 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) shed 0.56% or 0.27 points to 47.68.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Palantir Technologies Inc (NYSE:PLTR) which rose 24.43% to 51.53, Cummins Inc (NYSE:CMI) which was up 8.92% to settle at 354.67 and Emerson Electric Company (NYSE:EMR) which gained 6.98% to close at 117.48.
The worst performers were Celanese Corporation (NYSE:CE) which was down 25.34% to 92.20 in late trade, Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which lost 9.63% to settle at 86.44 and Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (NYSE:ADM) which was down 7.12% to 51.36 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Zoomcar Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ZCAR) which rose 255.96% to 14.35, Bionomics Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:BNOX) which was up 165.68% to settle at 0.51 and Bluejay Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:BJDX) which gained 89.03% to close at 0.14.
The worst performers were Verrica Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:VRCA) which was down 43.29% to 0.81 in late trade, Marqeta Inc (NASDAQ:MQ) which lost 42.10% to settle at 3.45 and Lilium NV (NASDAQ:LILM) which was down 35.64% to 0.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2137 to 632 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2342 rose and 968 declined, while 52 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.82% to 20.70.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.17% or 4.80 to $2,751.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.80% or 0.57 to hit $72.04 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.61% or 0.46 to trade at $75.54 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.46% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.45% to 151.44.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 103.35.
