TradingKey - As the TikTok ban looms, users are flocking to REDnote, which has surged to dominate the download charts on the Apple App Store.
On Monday, January 13, the Chinese social media platform REDnote claimed the number-one spot on the Apple App Store’s download charts, becoming the most downloaded free app in the U.S.
REDnote’s sudden surge in popularity is largely attributed to the impending TikTok ban. The U.S. government has issued an ultimatum to TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance: divest from TikTok by January 19, or face a nationwide ban, citing national security concerns.
The U.S. Supreme Court has yet to issue a final ruling on TikTok’s fate. However, prevailing opinion suggests that the judges are likely to side with the government, effectively sealing the app’s removal. Adding to the speculation, market rumors recently suggested that ByteDance might sell its U.S. operations to Elon Musk. A TikTok spokesperson, however, dismissed these claims as entirely unfounded.
With TikTok’s future uncertain, many of its users have turned to REDnote, a platform with similar features, as a way to voice their frustration with the U.S. government’s decision.
