Axie Infinity

The gameplay of Axie Infinity is centered around fighting and breeding Axies. Players first need to acquire Axies, either by purchasing them on the marketplace or breeding their own. They can then participate in battles, choosing either the Adventure Mode (PvE) or Arena Mode (PvP). Winning battles earns players experience points that can be used to level up their Axies' stats or evolve their body parts. Players can also breed their Axies, but each Axie can only be bred a maximum of seven times. The resulting offspring can then be traded on the Axie Infinity marketplace. The game also features a metaverse-like environment called Lunacia, where players can search for resources and upgrade their land plots.

Axie Infinity has a few unique features that differentiate it from other blockchain-based games. Firstly, each Axie possesses six out of hundreds of potential body parts, each with its own battle move, resulting in essentially endless variety among Axies. Additionally, Axies can only be bred a total of seven times, helping to control the overall population of Axies. Axie Infinity also has its own mating hub to help players find suitable breeding matches. Unlike some other stakeable assets, AXS holders need to both vote and play the game to claim their rewards.

To address the scalability challenges associated with running the game on the Ethereum blockchain, Axie Infinity has created its own sidechain called the Ronin Network. The Ronin Network ensures instant transactions without involving the Ethereum blockchain. Users can safely store their AXS tokens and Axie NFTs in Ethereum and Ronin wallets, and seamlessly transfer tokens between the two networks using the Ronin Bridge.
